Sunday's Experience

October 14, 2003, 3:28 p.m.

Okay I haven't been online for a few days!

Anyway, the weirdest thing happened on Sunday.

On Sunday morning, at about 9:00 AM, our next-door neighbor Nancy called us and told us that there was a police stand-off in the alley. Sure enough, there were police officers standing behind the faded purple garage in the alley with their rifles up.

There were at least four officers that we could see standing there, and there were more circling the block.

About an hour later, they blocked off the street and alley, and Nancy called again.

She had called the sheriff to find out what was going on and found out that the SWAT team was coming.

Soon guys in camo came, and more policemen in bullet-proof helmets and vests.

It was the strangest thing....by this point, we'd worked out that something strange was happening in the middle apartment of the triplex apartment building.

Then, I was looking out the window in the front of the house, and noticed that the couple who lived next door to the apartments were standing on the corner with their two dogs.

They'd been evacuated, and understandably, they didn't know where to go, since the police wouldn't let them get their car.

So we let them come in, and they gladly accepted.

So we kept an eye on the situation for the next two hours while it seemed like very little progress was being made.

After awhile though, my dad saw a guy come out of the apartment with his hands up. A red-haired girl soon followed. I recognized them vaguely. They were both handcuffed and led to a squad car.

Then the SWAT team went into the apartment with their guns raised, to clear it out and make sure no one else was inside.

They soon okayed it and our neighbors were allowed back into their house.

I went outside, extremely curious about the whole situation. As I was walking out of my house, two guys (sorta cute guys too haha) in camo were coming out of our other next-door neighbor Karen's house. Police were all going back to their squad cars and stuff and unblocking the street.

Outside, we found out a little bit of news. Apparently, a guy broke into his ex-girlfriend's (or ex-wife's) apartment across the alley, and held her hostage at gunpoint.

Somehow she managed to get to a phone and call the police, and...that's what happened.

I went back inside and watched the alley and apartment a little more to see if all the police were gone.

There was still a squad car and a few police officers roaming the place and checking some things out.

The red-haired girl was led back by a few police officers and were questioning her in the apartment.

I can't remember how long they stayed, at that point I tuned out since most of the excitement had ended.

So anyway...it was in the newspaper yesterday morning. Just a little article, but still, it was there.

Gosh I really hope that guy doesn't get bailed out of jail! He should just stay there. Hahaha if I were in charge of that jail, he'd be getting used to jail food real quick. I have no sympathy for him. He doesn't deserve any anyway. :-P
